ITV Coronation street fans rejoice as Roy Cropper and Cathy Matthews 'reunite'

Casualty star Melanie Hill delighted Coronation Street fans when she reunited with former co-star David Nielson.

Roy calls it a day with Cathy on Coronation Street

ITV Coronation Street's Roy Cropper star David Neilson has reunited with his former on-screen love interest Casualty star Melanie Hill to the delight of fans. Roy and Melanie's character Cathy Matthews were a fan favourite couple and were due to marry in 2016.

However, Roy jilted her prior to the ceremony, as he was still not over the death of his late wife Hayley (played by Julie Hesmondhalgh). Cathy went on to date Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) before departing the cobbles for good in 2022 after seven years on the show.

Melanie is now a staple in the long-running BBC medical drama Casualty where she plays Clinical Lead Siobhan McKenize but it appears she is still close to her co-stars and delighted fans when she posted a picture with David. She tagged the soap in the picture with the caption: "Greetings from Scarborough @coronationstreet #RoyandCathy.

She also wrote: "He’s feeling much better!! It’s the sea air," in reference to David's recent distressing storylines as Roy. Both looked happy and relaxed in the image.

David was a million miles away from the currently downtrodden and distressed Roy, who has recently spent time in jail after he was arrested for murdering Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), who it transpired was still alive.

His character's scraggy beard, sad expression and dowdy clothing were gone and replaced by a broad smile and a stylish shirt and fleece combo.

Meanwhile Melanie smiled broadly clearly delighted to see him as she donned a sweatshirt adorned with the phrase "mellow out".

Fans were thrilled to see them reunited and flooded Melanie's comments to share their thoughts.

@loyalwillbeckfans gushed: "Absolute legends! Big love to you and David!" @autumnalwalksara wrote: "Lovely photo of you both."

@lioness1954 gushed: "Ahhh fabulous photo, make sure Roy is fully recovered before he comes back to the Street. Missing Cathy on the Street lots & lots xx."

@dotsamusings observed: "Roy’s feeling better his beard has gone!" @prinny1968 enthused: "Fabulous guys." Meanwhile numerous other followers simply expressed their delight by posting heart emojis in the comment section.

Melanie first joined the ITV soap in 2014 as the widowed Cathy. Viewers and Roy later learned she was a hoarder.

He helped her through that and they began a touching relationship and were due to marry.

However just before the wedding, Cathy learnt that Roy wasn’t sure and ended their relationship at the altar but the two agreed to remain close friends just like their off screen alter egos.

Melanie left Coronation Street in June 2022 and in October 2023 it was announced she would be joining the cast of Casualty.
