Kate Beckinsale has hit back at a fan who criticised her weight and appearance in a now-removed Instagram post, stating she's merely "trying to survive" following a challenging year.

The actress' recent video was inundated with negative remarks about her looks.

The star was in her film trailer for an upcoming project, a remake of the 90s movie Stolen Girl. She was showcasing her outfits and hairstyles, offering a sneak peek at her slender figure.

"Sorry to say this Kate, but you do look a bit thin," one individual commented, as reported by Page Six. "You always struck a great balance ... But when your cheekbones start to show, the balance is lost."

Kate, who has been dealing with health problems recently, responded to the comment, saying: "I nursed my [stepdad] to his death early this year.

"My mum also has stuff going on. I am adjusting to watching two fathers die, one when I was 5, one in January of this year."

Earlier this year, the actress' stepfather Roy Battersby passed away after a short illness.

As a child, Kate discovered her father Richard Beckinsale's body following his heart attack.

Kate revealed that she also "experienced a severe flare of [her] mast cell disease," which was triggered "by stress, shock and grief."

"I lost my soulmate cat of almost 19 years, also last year," she disclosed. "I spent six weeks in hospital due to copiously vomiting blood from a [Mallory-Weiss tear] caused by the stress of a whole year ripping a hole between my [esophagus] and stomach."

She elaborated: "That's what I am prepared to disclose that has contributed to some weight loss. What you think of my appearance and how I should look, independently of any circumstances in my life and my family's is not important.

"I am trying to survive what feel like unbearable losses, reactivated PTSD from discovering my very young father's almost dead body as a very young child alone in the night, and working to support the family I have left.

"The fact you fancy girls who are heavier than I am does not feature in things that are important or relevant. I don't care what your taste in women is. I care that you think any of us need to be apprised of it. Do better."

In response to another individual's concern, who urged her, "Please eat something. I love you, I'm very worried with your skinny look," she tersely replied, "Enough."

Back in March, Kate alarmed her followers by posting a selfie from the hospital without explaining why.

She kept updating with hospital pictures, yet the only clue about her ailment came when she donned a T-shirt stating: "Tummy Troubles Survivor."
