Prima honoured with posthumous Hollywood star
Late jazz star LOUIS PRIMA was the toast of Hollywood on Sunday (25Jul10) as he received a posthumous star on the Walk of Fame and swing-dancing fans came out to jive on the streets in his memory.
The King of Swing, who died in August 1978, was honoured by his son Louis Jr. and daughter Lena at a ceremony on Vine Street in Los Angeles, where his sidewalk tribute was unveiled.
Big band The Witnesses performed Prima's music while groups of swing-dancers showed off their moves at the concert, reports the Associated Press.
Funnyman Bill Cosby payed his respects to the star, telling the crowd, "Louis Prima was a great entertainer and presented a great show. But more than anything else, he brought happiness to his audiences."
Prima, who passed away after surgery to remove a brain tumour, would have turned 100 years old this year (10).
