Jeremy Clarkson’s daughter’s brutal takedown of her dad after Meghan Markle column
Jeremy Clarkson's daughter Emily joined a host of stars in furiously condemning her dad after his infamous column about Meghan Markle.
Jeremy Clarkson issues apology to Meghan and Harry
Jeremy Clarkson’s own daughter was among high-profile faces hitting out at the Clarkson’s Farm star over his controversial 2022 column about Meghan Markle. In December of that year, Jeremy, 64, wrote that he hated the Duchess of Sussex, 42, “on a cellular level” and compared it to his feelings towards serial killer Rose West and former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Published in The Sun in December 2022, the former Top Gear star wrote that he was “dreaming of the day when [Meghan] is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while crowds chant, 'Shame!' and throw lumps of excrement at her." He later explained that this had been linked to a famous scene in Game of Thrones.
The column quickly sparked a huge amount of backlash and prompted the highest number of complaints since IPSO was established in 2014.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a statement accusing Jeremy of spreading “hate rhetoric” as well as “dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny” and swathes of celebrities jumped to her defence, including Carol Vorderman and Denise Welch.
Jeremy’s own daughter Emily followed suit and stated that she “stands against everything” that her father wrote.
She shared to her Instagram followers: “My views are and have always been clear when it comes to misogyny, bullying and the treatment of women by the media. I want to make it very clear that I stand against everything that my dad wrote about Meghan Markle and I remain standing in support of those that are targeted with online hatred.”
Jeremy eventually issued a public apology and said he had emailed Meghan and Harry over Christmas 2022 to tell them: “The language I’d used in my column was disgraceful and that I was profoundly sorry”.
He explained that he published the column in a hurry and once he read it in the paper he realised he had “completely messed up”.
He went on to say his bosses at ITV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Amazon, who make Clarkson’s Farm and The Grand Tour, were "incandescent" after the piece was published.

Meghan and Harry issued a response to Clarkson's claims he emailed both of them on Christmas Day - saying the presenter only addressed his apology to Harry.
A joint statement issued on behalf of the couple read: "On December 25, 2022, Mr. Clarkson wrote solely to Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex.
"While a new public apology has been issued today by Mr. Clarkson, what remained to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories, and misogyny."
The Sun apologised and removed the article from its website. It said that the column “fell short of its high editorial standards and should not have been published”.
In July 2023, IPSO - the Independent Press Standards Organisation – ruled that Jeremy’s column was sexist towards the Duchess of Sussex. IPSO chairman Lord Faulks added that the imagery was “humiliating and degrading”.
The watchdog ruled that The Sun had broken its editors' code of practice as the column contained a "pejorative and prejudicial reference" to Meghan's sex.
IPSO rejected complaints that the piece was discriminatory on the grounds of race, inaccurate or sought to harass the duchess.
Responding to the ruling, The Sun said it “accepts that with free expression comes responsibility”.
