Dead To Me: Christina Applegate stars in Netflix comedy
Christina Applegate has been fearlessly candid about her health struggles after revealing her devastating Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in 2021.
The 52-year-old revealed to her Hollywood pal Dax Shephard on his Armchair Expert podcast that she has “30 lesions on my brain” and likened them to “herpes sores” to help listeners better understand the complicated disability.
She explained: “The biggest one is behind my right eye so it hurts a lot. Other people don’t even have them on the brain, they have them on the spine.
“We all have an issue with mobility but it’s different per person. My hand starts to go weird and then I’ll get a seizure-y feeling sometimes in my brain.”
The Dead to Me star noted that there’s not much understanding of how individuals get MS and compared the treatment she’s currently on as “almost like a form of chemo” as it kills the B-cells attacking her nervous system.

The actress has been relentlessly honest throughout her struggle with MS, after expressing regret for how she acted during her breast cancer battle in 2008 as she felt like a “fraud” for pretending to be okay in the public eye.
In the spirit of honesty, the Emmy winner revealed that the worst thing about MS for her is coming to grips mentally that “this is life now” as the progressive disease has no cure.
She added: “It’s the worst tattoo. This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me in my entire life.”
The legendary actress has taken a step back from her on-camera work since her diagnosis and admitted she isn’t sure if she’ll ever be able to return to screen, but now revealed this is the first time she hasn’t been consistently working since she was 13.
The 52-year-old went through a minor identity crisis at first, trying to figure out “who am I” without her work but praised her 13-year-old daughter Sadie for giving her a purpose to get up every morning.
While Christina has been candid about her struggles behind the scenes, she has also come under fire for the jokes she makes about her own disability.
However, the Married with Children star explained “I make these jokes because if I don’t, I’ll suffocate. I’m not ready for the healing yet.”
