Jamie Dornan reveals his 'two week rule' when filming
Jamie Dornan catapulted to international fame in 2015 with the salacious role of Christian Grey in the R-rated film trilogy 50 Shades of Grey, but the dominating role brought the actor a type of attention he certainly didn’t want.
Speaking to The Independent about his latest project, The Tourist, the Hollywood star reflected on his time as a globally renowned sex symbol revealing that he had to “put up walls” between himself and fans of the franchise.
He revealed that he tries not to let the countless fan theories and conspiracies about how close his personal life may be to the raunchy narratives in the films affect him.
However, some fans took it too far and he was determined to put a stop to it when it started affecting his family.
The 41-year-old recalled a “stalker-type situation” he endured before the pandemic, dubbing it “f***ing scary” as “someone turned up at my house when my kids were there”.
The actor shares his three daughters, 10-year-old Dulcie, seven-year-old Elva and four-year-old Alberta, with his wife of 10 years Amelia Warner.
Not eager to relive those scary encounters, the actor simply concluded: “The more I can block that out, the better it is for me and the family.”
The experience has shifted Jamie’s opinion on joining behemoth franchises again, although he admitted the “hysteria” around 50 Shades was a phenomenon in cinema largely because of the film’s sexual focus.
He compared the intense attention to the likes of superhero franchises or James Bond, adding: “I’ve done pretty well to avoid that sort of s**t so far.”

However, he didn’t entirely write out the possibility, saying he “probably will” end up in a high-profile project at some time point but is gleefully living out his life without the focus of the public eye on him, revealing he can even ride the tube now in peace.
While the intense fervor around 50 Shades has largely died down since the series ended, although fans still theorise Jamie and his costar Dakota Johnson have a secret relationship, Jamie laments being known in the industry for so long as “the guy from 50 Shades of Grey”.
Luckily, he has since managed to shift public perception with a string of celebrated dramatic roles in Belfast, Heart of Stone and A Haunting in Venice, as well some as television work in the likes of The Tourist.
