David Beckham's 'inspiring' message to Lionesses slammed by football fans due to language
David Beckham has come under fire by some football fans for his use of language in an Instagram video posted to wish luck to the Lionesses.
David Beckham sends good luck message to Lionesses
The Lionesses are currently taking on Australia in the Women's World Cup's semi-final with many footballers sending their support to the team.
This included David Beckham, who appeared in a video alongside his daughter Harper, 11, to wish the Lionesses luck on England's Football Instagram page.
He began: "Hey girls. I just wanted to say, wow. What a tournament it’s been so far.
"It’s been so much fun to watch and we’re all so proud as a nation of what you’ve achieved already."
The former Manchester United player continued: "Seeing you girls play as a team, it’s been really incredible.

"So continue to do so, good luck in this next game, and just know that our whole nation is behind you, as always. And good luck."
His wife Victoria Beckham continued: "Keep inspiring these girls because it's incredible to watch. And I'm very, very happy that you're doing it for this one [Harper]."
While many called Beckham's message "inspiring", a number of fans slammed David for his choice to call the footballer "girls".
@Nathan.baker.11 said: "Not sure that's the right way to start the video."

@Hazzachazza21 added: "They're women David. Women!"
@liz_bond87 commented: "It’s WOMEN not girls."
@chriskillaaaa said: "Why not talk like that when males in the world cup? It feels like a charity speech."
However, not all comments were slamming the retired footballer, with many praising him for always supporting others in the business.
@lucy_loo_5261 said: "Some of the comments on here are disgusting. Great work as always @davidbeckham in supporting the women’s game and it’s so great to see your Daughter feeling inspired by what the Lionesses are achieving in women’s football!"
While @lteagles16 added: "I'm amazed reading the negative comments from people instead of appreciating his good wishes. AND WOMEN ARE GIRLS no matter what age they are.... it's just an endearing term that's all folks!!!"
Women’s football has rocketed into the public consciousness since the build-up to and as a result of their epic win at last year’s Euros against Germany.
The Lionesses have since sparked a huge resurgence in interest in women's football with record-breaking crowds, TV viewing figures and transfer prices.
David himself is known for his history in the football industry, and was even the inspiration for the 2002 hit Bend It Like Beckham, all about women's football.
