Jeremy Clarkson: ‘My bad’ Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host apologises for show blunder
JEREMY CLARKSON was back in the hot seat on Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? last night, but during the episode, the former Top Gear host had a little gaffe as he pronounced Certain Thomas’ name wrong.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: Jeremy jokes about cars
Jeremy Clarkson, 59, had asked the question “Which British cyclist has won the Tour de France four times?” during last night’s episode to a contestant.
The four possible answers included Chris Froome, Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas and Mark Cavendish.
Jeremy pronounced last year’s Tour de France winner as: “Ger-iant,” which was picked up on Twitter.
One person said to The Grand Tour host: “Can we talk about the way @JeremyClarkson pronounces @GeraintThomas86‘s name ? lmao #whowantstobeamillionaire.”
My bad
Jeremy apologised for pronouncing the Welsh sportsman’s name wrong, and replied: “Sorry. My bad.”
The Twitter user responded: “All forgiven.”
Another viewer, who was named Geraint, commented on the gaffe, and said: “We're used to it. Don't worry.”
While one other viewer picked up on the mispronunciation and wrote: @JeremyClarkson the most appealing incorrect pronunciation of Geraint Thomas’ name tonight - it’s not difficult if you made the effort.”
Another fan sarcastically commented: “Cracking pronunciation of Geraint Thomas on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.”
The answer to the question was Chris Froome, who won the race in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Also during the show, Jeremy appeared a little miffed when he was not asked by the contestant to help answer a question based on cars, his specialist topic.
Contestant Suzie struggled to answer a question which asked what the stopping distance of a car going 30mph is in the Highway Code.
Susie said she was going to use her phone a friend lifeline as the person on the other end of the phone was into “motorsport and he races cars”.
Jeremy said to the contestant, who still had her ask the host lifeline: “Right, well… There’s no one here who could have helped you with that!”
As the audience laughed at the interaction, Jeremy then shook his head.
But Jeremy couldn’t help but inquire further: “What subject are you saving for me? It’s clearly not cars!”
Jeremy took on the role of hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? when the show returned for its 20th anniversary last year.
Due to its success, the ITV show came back for another series, with Jeremy taking on the role of former host, Chris Tarrant.
Chris presented the ITV quiz show from 1998 for 15 years until he quit.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? continues Sunday on ITV from 8pm.
