A pretty village you can reach on its own 'curry train' has been named as one of the best places to live in the UK. Corbridge in Northumberland, a region brimming with charming towns and villages, caught the attention of national property experts for its beauty and history as well as its independent shops.
Nestled near Hadrian's Wall, 16 miles west of Newcastle and four miles east of Hexham, Corbridge was lauded by property experts Garrington as 'an idyllic, historic village with an array of small independent shops, artisan and antique stores and many excellent places to eat and drink. ' This aspect of the village has only improved over the years. Corbridge boasts a unique feature that sets it apart from neighbouring towns and villages - its very own curry train.
For decades, the Passage to India experience has drawn diners from Newcastle city centre.
They board a carriage at Central Station that takes them into Northumberland to The Valley restaurant.
Located practically on the village's station platform, this culinary gem is renowned for its top-notch curries, reports Chronicle Live.
Taking a trip on the curry train is an experience that has been described as a must-do for people living in the North East. There are numerous other fantastic spots in Corbridge for a meal and a few drinks.
Foodies will be well served by establishments such as Sycamore, Casa Rosso and Il Piccolo.

Currently, Casa Rosso holds the second position on Trip Advisor's list of best restaurants in the village, with The Black Bull clinching the top spot, earning descriptions such as 'fantastic' and 'a gem' from its highly satisfied patrons.
The Corbridge Larder takes the third spot, with Sycamore and Il Piccolo completing the top five. The Valley currently holds the sixth position.
Naming it as one of England's best villages, the property experts said: "Corbridge is an idyllic, historic village with an array of small independent shops, artisan and antique stores and many excellent places to eat and drink.
"Corbridge is the site of a Roman town located on Hadrian’s Wall and Aydon Castle is nearby.
"The village is located a few miles from the market town of Hexham, which offers further amenities, and approximately 16 miles away from Newcastle upon Tyne; Corbridge train station offers a direct service to Newcastle.
"There are several excellent hotels nearby for leisure and sports, including golf, such as Maften Hall, located a couple of miles away from Corbridge."
