If you are looking for a warm and sunny destination to escape to, there is one region in Italy that is an absolute 'must visit' this autumn.

Puglia in southeast Italy is an ideal escape from the cold and dreary weather we experience in the UK. It is known for its long coastline, charming villages, and exceptional food and wine.

Temperatures stay pleasant in autumn, around the mid-20s, and as summer crowds fade, the region becomes perfect for a relaxing, authentic Italian experience. The region also offers uncrowded beaches where the Adriatic meets the Ionian Sea.

The coastline is dotted with pristine beaches like Torre dell'Orso, Punta Prosciutto, and the 'Maldives of Puglia' in Pescoluse, all offering fine sand and turquoise waters. Some have dubbed it "heaven on earth" after documenting their trips online.

Megan Frederick gained more than 2.7million views on a video where she captured the soft white sands and clear blue waters.

"POV: You decide to go where the Italians go on vacation in Italy," she wrote, showing the view from a boat trip she took along the coast before naming her location as Puglia.

In the caption, the 28-year-old, from Charleston, added: "Actually heaven on earth. So calm and beautiful and authentic." Many TikTok users agreed as they took to the comments, wanting to go for themselves.

One user said: "Just did a Puglia trip it was so beautiful," while another commented: "Euro holidays are the best." Someone else wrote: "This is what I was looking for, somewhere authentic and not popular."

Other highlights in Puglia include the Roman city of Lecce, known as the 'Florence of the South', and Polignano a Mare, a cliffside town with stunning beaches and panoramic views. The region is famous for its wine and visitors can enjoy tastings during the grape harvest in September and October.

Autumn is also ideal for boat trips along the coast, exploring ancient villages such as Monopoli and Otranto. The coastal villages viewed from the sea offer a unique perspective of Puglia's rich history, ancient architecture, and natural beauty.
