A local has shared a video explaining exactly what happens when it rains in the almost-always sunny hotspot of Benidorm - and it's not what you think.

Believe it or not, it's not always sunny in the Brit-filled land of Benidorm.

The popular holiday destination, located in Alicante, Spain, has garnered an infamous reputation due to its party-mad strip, slew of English Breakfast cafes, and golden sandy beaches.

Due to its 'sheltered position' on the east coast, Benidorm has some of the Mediterranean's highest summer temperatures - with July and August being particularly dry and sunny.

Even in the winter, Benidorm sees less rain than other European destinations, with around a quarter of the rainfall that we get in Manchester in February.

So, what actually happens when the heavens open up while holidaymakers are trying to relax under the sun? Do tanned pensioners and burnt Brits scurry inside, wrestling over the last seat in a crammed bar?

Taking to TikTok, local Frank shared a video jokingly captioned 'Benidorm stops over a bit of rain'. The sky may not be its usual blue, but tourists don't seem to be affected, still jumping into the sea and lounging on the beach.

"You can see the watersports kiosk are still open - that means you can still book stuff," he said. "Now remember, yellow flags are up in the water, that means the conditions can change quickly and they don't recommend you go into the sea."

He added: "But here we go, Benidorm in the rain. Look, people are still having fun, how's that?"

Taking to the comments section, holidaymakers still expressed their concern of the weather dampening their upcoming visit to Benidorm. "We come in October hoping the rain stays away," one person wrote. Another agreed, commenting: "Same. I'm [going] 1st-8th October."

However, others had a more nonchalant approach to a bit of drizzle, with one person joking: "It doesn't rain in the bars lol."
