Bali volcano: Mount Agung spews enormous ash cloud
Bali volcano Mount Agung has erupted again, causing travel chaos in Indonesia.
The local airport was closed at 3am local time, and has recently re-opened despite warnings it would not until 7pm local time.
On their Twitter account, the airport warned passengers to "stay updated for every information from our official account".
A number of flights have also been cancelled travelling to and from Denpasar's Ngurah Rai International Airport.
The Foreign Office has also updated their latest travel warning for the country.
The alert level for Mount Agung remains at level three and there is a four kilometre exclusion zone around the crater
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) warned: “On 28 June 2018 Mount Agung in east Bali erupted, emitting gas and ash which has resulted in the closure of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport from 0300 to 1900 on 29 June 2018.
“Other regional airports may also be affected by the ash cloud and flights may be cancelled or delayed.
“You should contact your airline before travelling. The alert level for Mount Agung remains at level three and there is a four kilometre exclusion zone around the crater.
“If you are in the area you should follow the advice of the local authorities.”
Indonesia has a number of active volcanoes which can erupt with “little or no warning”.
A number of flights have been cancelled in the area thanks to the closed airport.
AirAsia, Jetstar and Virgin Australia have been forced to cancel some flights, affecting hundreds of passengers according to Reuters.
AirAsia tweeted: “The eruption of Mount Agung today has impacted several of our flights to and from Bali."
Virgin Australia tweeted: “BALI UPDATE: Due to the significant volcanic ash caused by Mount Agung in Bali, Denpasar Airport is currently closed. This has resulted in a number of flights being cancelled.”
Jetstar released their latest statement on Twitter: "NEW UPDATE ON BALI FLIGHTS - At this stage, scheduled flights this afternoon and this evening are planned to operate subject to any change in conditions.
Qantas has delayed a number of flights and continues to "monitor conditions in Bali following volcanic eruptions at Mount Agung".
