Planes struggle to land during horrific storm at Amsterdam Airport
It was raining like crazy and the wind was incredibly hard
Stomach-churning footage showed a series of planes battling severe winds as they came into land at Schiphol Airport.
The aircraft were caught up in a fierce storm which bounced them around as they approached the tarmac.
A KLM Boeing 737 was captured on video tipping back and forward as it came closer to the ground.
The YouTube user who shot the footage said: “It was raining like crazy and the wind was incredibly hard.”

Several planes faced a very bumpy ride during the storm on February 23.
Though crosswind landings can be harrowing for passengers on board, pilots are well trained to perform the difficult task.
A technique called ‘crab landing’ is used, which involves coming in to land slightly sideways, so the nose is in line with the runway.
There is a crosswind limit built into all new passenger planes which communicates to the pilot whether it is safe to land.

If the crosswinds exceed the limit, the plane will divert to another airport.
But wild weather can be unsettling for passengers when it makes for extremely bumpy landings.
Last month a plane was caught on video making a one wheeled landing at Leeds Bradford Airport as the UK battled a fierce storm.
Portugal’s Madeira Airport takes the crown for the most notorious landing strip the world over.

Nicknamed the “world’s scariest airport” and one of the “most dangerous airports” on the planet, the Portuguese landing strip is known for bumpy landings.
Madeira Airport has earned its infamous nicknames because of its geographical position.
Nestled between towering mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, the area is frequented by strong crosswinds which make plane landings much more difficult.
The short runway also forces jets to make sharp turns over rocky terrain at the very last minute.
