Bill Campbell has recently taken the reigns as depute convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee.
Dundee in Scotland is undergoing a transformation to attract tourists
One of our main ambitions is to turn Dundee into a major city break destination
He’s looking to drive Dundee forward in leaps and bounds.
Mr Campbell told the Evening Telegraph: “One of our main ambitions is to turn Dundee into a major city break destination.
“We have a lot to offer and there’s a lot happening. We’re keen to attract as many visitors as possible to the city.
“Key things to be looked at in a bid to drive tourism in Dundee are transport links, accommodation, business tourism, employment, internet and WiFi links, visitor attractions, and marketing of the city.”

The best place to stay tuned? Dundee.com. Mr Campbell said: “This is a website that people can go on to find out what’s happening and we could develop it further.
“In Dundee, there are all these things going on but we need to make sure we tell people about them.
“We hope to host more exhibitions and seminars as a way to get more people to come to visit the city.
“More hotels are currently being built and there is increasing visitor accommodation.”
Dundee has become a UNESCO City of Design
According to VisitScotland, Dundee has myriad descriptions, from 'one city, many discoveries' to 'jute, jam and journalism' and most recently, a 'UNESCO City of Design’.
But when it comes to holidaying in Scotland, Dundee is often overlooked in favour of other cities.
The tourism body’s latest research showed Edinburgh was the most visited location, with 40 per cent of tourists having been there during their trip to Scotland.
The Highlands and Skye was the second most popular destination at 29 per cent with Glasgow in third place at 22 per cent.
