THE moment a giant meteor blazed impressively through the sky has been captured on camera by police.

The footage shows a green bright light blaze a trail before quickly disappearing and was caught on film by police patrolling in their car.
The amazing scene, which was filmed in several midwestern US states, shocked onlookers.
It appeared at around 1.25am on Monday and landed in Lake Michigan according to reports.

The American Meteor Society said more than 380 witnesses reported spotting the fireball, which could be seen in seven US states and Ontario in Canada.
They included University of Wisconsin police who were slowly navigating a bend in their car when they spotted the meteor through their front windscreen.
The society said: “The green fireball was seen primarily from Illinois and Wisconsin but witnesses from Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, New York, Kentucky, Minessota and Ontario also reported the event.”
One online poster from Plymouth, Wisconsin, in the United States, didn’t see the meteor but heard the effects.
Abby Hoppert said: "I did hear what sounded like a large explosion and rumble and felt the floors shaking."
Reports have said the meteor caused a sonic boom, which can be like a big explosion, and rattled houses.
People in a Siberian city also witnessed a rare phenomenon recently.
In December, locals in the Republic of Khakassia saw a meteor exploding, which triggered car alarms.
