Angela Lonsadale recounts her best and worst holiday moments
She is engaged to Jonny Davies and divides her time between London and Cheshire.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY?
A tour of America with my family when I was 17. We went to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, Disneyland, part of Route 66 and much more.
It was our last holiday as a family, so it will always have a special place in my heart.
The Grand Canyon was a highlight. We stayed for several days and enjoyed the sunrise and sunset. We had lots of laughs along the way.
A gang of hairy bikers wolf-whistled me at a pit stop on Route 66. My dad, hugely protective, went over – I have no idea what he said but they shut up!
Angela admits she is not a big fan of souvenirs
AND YOUR WORST?
A narrowboat holiday on the Norfolk Broads. It rained the entire time. It was a gang of friends but we didn’t know each other that well, so it was testing. And I split up with my boyfriend there, so that was awkward!
FAVOURITE SOUVENIR?
I’ve never been a fan of souvenirs so I’ve never bought any. I wouldn’t thank anyone for getting me one either!
Safety precautions to take before you go on holiday
It's phones away for Angela, and simply pure relaxation away from the world
BEST HOLIDAY READ?
I have just finished The Secrets We Keep by Jonathan Harvey. It’s a family mystery and a real pageturner. He has the ability to make you laugh and cry in the same sentence, not just with his novels but in TV and the theatre too.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAY?
Switching off. My phone goes in the safe and stays there until the last day. My idea of heaven is simply sun and a spa.
Route 66 is one of the most iconic trails in America, and a great holiday trip
WHERE WOULD YOU REVISIT?
I would do the whole of Route 66. My dad always wanted to do it on his motorbike but never got to live his dream. I really want to do it in a convertible, and to a soundtrack of his favourite music.
I want to be on a beach celebrating in a really quiet, chilled way with spa treatments
WHERE NEXT?
I have a big birthday coming up this month so it will be a surprise, but my fiancé will definitely be taking me somewhere hot with a spa. We love to travel together and have plans to see the world one day. I don’t mind where we go, as long as he doesn’t do a surprise party. I want to be on a beach celebrating in a really quiet, chilled way with spa treatments and then a lovely dinner looking out to sea.
Our Girl is on BBC1, Wednesday, 9pm.
