In fact, more than a quarter will search for somewhere serving fish and chips while a fifth will want a traditional roast or fry-up.
The Barclaycard survey of 250,000 people found one in 10 are scared stiff of not liking the food served up, a condition dubbed fear of food overseas.

The fussiest eaters are aged between 16-24, with almost a fifth saying they worry about the fare on offer.
To mitigate against the unfamiliar taste of paella or souvlaki British dinner table staples like vinegar, seasoning and even gravy granules are regularly stowed away in our luggage.
Others items regularly smuggled abroad include jam, chocolate spread, long life milk and chocolate flakes.
Food historian Seren Evans-Charrington said: “Tucking into local dishes should be part of the holiday experience, but for many Brits sticking to what they know is the preferred option because it gives them a sense of comfort: making them feel ‘at home’ while abroad.

“Although British travellers might want to sample British fare in far flung lands, they also come back inspired by foreign cuisine and the increase in ‘exotic’ ingredients lining supermarket shelves is testimony to this.
"In true British tradition, we will always add a little bit of our culture into any dish with a dash of tomato ketchup.”
