The owner of the hotel felt the tight attire was putting other guests off their food.
Speaking to stuff.co.nz, Mike Saunders said: “We get a nice group of customers out here, some elderly folk … when you’re trying to concentrate on your breakfast you just want to see the sausages on your plate.”
Mike has even gone to the trouble of writing the request on a notice board.
It reads: “The bicycle is a beautiful object but they should never have invented Lycra! No Lycra shorts allowed please!”
Mike revealed he was looking to get into confrontation with cyclists but was prepared to stand his ground if they protested against the new rules.
He joked: “If there’s hordes of cyclists outside threatening to bash us with their bike pumps we can always barricade ourselves in, we’ve got a bit of food and drink here so we should be able to outlast them.”
This story comes after a passenger was escorted off a flight due to complaints of hunger.
