Leeds is also home to a popular German Christmas market with more than 40 traditional wooden stalls doused in holly and baubles selling fresh pretzels and grilled bratwurst. Toy soldiers and intricate glassware will make extra special Christmas gifts (until December 20).

Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle provide a magical setting for one of the biggest Christmas markets in the country, which includes a big wheel and nearly 300 stalls stacked high with seasonal food, drink and gifts (December 3-6).
