Travellers have expressed concern over the soaring costs at Marmaris - a popular Turkish holiday destination - fearing for its future as tourists feel the pinch.

On social media, many people have been talking about the unusually quiet season, and they think it's due to skyrocketing prices. Many have complained the prices have soared throughout the summer.

One man, who goes by the username marmarislovers on TikTok, disclosed his concerns about the tourism industry's viability, predicting that "Marmaris will have no tourists in 2025" due to expenses deterring holidaymakers.

Speaking of the price hikes, he explained: "This season has been so quiet, it's sad to see. Also 2025 has 15% price increase again. Vodka and Coke already £15 alone. Can go Dubai for same price."

His video sparked amazement, and led to a wave of comments from fellow travellers who were keen to share their experiences. A sense that these issues have been building up for years is common, with one visitor commenting "been going on for 20 years", while confessing they won't be returning.

Some remained indifferent to the cost increases, but others took to the comment section to vent their frustrations. One person said: "I'm here right now. The money I've spent here, I could have done a banging 10/10 Thailand holiday."

Complaints extended beyond Marmaris itself though, with one tourist noting the expense of fast food at local airports, writing "Dalaman Airport. Burger King meal for two was 40 Euros."

A once-loyal visitor summed up the sentiment well, adding: "It's such a shame for Turkey. I've been going years, but won't be going again."

Meanwhile, a fourth chimed in with: "Been going 16 years. Sadly last year for us - June was a fortune."

Some holidaymakers have come out in force to defend Turkey as a destination, dismissing claims that it's overly expensive. A satisfied tourist shared: "I'd love to know where this £15 vodka and Coke is. I've been paying like 250 lira (£5.60) for two."

Another holidaymaker praised the country, stating: "I'm literally just back from Turkey. Going back again in October for 10 days, then booked again for next year in July. Then hopefully again in October next year too."

A long-term fan of the country contributed as well, writing: "Turkey is the best place. Been going for 25 years. Amazing, clean and people can't do enough. Respect the country, and people."
