Worst city to live in Europe is sunny touristic hotspot frequented by Brits

A stunning coastal city renowned for its appeal as a top holiday spot has surprisingly earned the title of Europe's least liveable city, according to recent research.

If you’ve ever considered relocating from the UK to the continent, there are some European cities you might want to reconsider.

A study by the European Commission surveyed residents across Europe, evaluating their cities on key factors like housing, green spaces, and healthcare.

While the majority of Europeans express high satisfaction with their lives, not every city measures up. In fact, a popular tourist destination is home to some of the continent’s least content residents.

Podgorica

10. Podgorica, Montenegro

Podgorica, Montenegro's capital, ranks as having the 10th lowest resident satisfaction in Europe. Despite the country’s attractive coastline attracting numerous tourists, its capital city doesn't enjoy the same level of interest. Less than half of Podgorica’s residents feel that the city is welcoming for LGBTQ individuals, and 22 percent of them reported experiencing loneliness.

9. Miskolc, Hungary

Miskolc, an industrial hub in northeastern Hungary and the country’s fourth-largest city, struggles with resident satisfaction. Less than half of its inhabitants feel secure walking alone after dark, and fewer than 25 percent believe finding a good job is straightforward in the city. Additionally, the local healthcare system has not met the expectations of many residents.

8. Skopje, North Macedonia

Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, is among the European cities with the lowest resident satisfaction. Just 13 percent of its residents felt that their quality of life had improved over the past five years. 7. Rome, Italy

Even though Rome is a premier tourist destination in Europe, it ranks poorly in terms of resident satisfaction. Just three percent of those living in the Italian capital believe their quality of life has improved over the past five years. Also, fewer than half of the city's residents feel that Rome is a suitable place for older individuals to live.

6. Belgrade, Serbia

Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, is among the cities in Europe with the lowest levels of resident satisfaction. Only 38 percent of its inhabitants believe they can trust their fellow residents. While about 60 percent are content with their employment, fewer than half of the city's population is satisfied with the public transportation system.
