If you had to name the summer holiday hotspots that are most popular with Brits, several would spring to mind immediately – Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey among them.
However, a growing number of UK holidaymakers are opting for Morocco as their summer destination. According to recent reports, flights from the UK to Morocco have surged by approximately three quarters since 2019.
With an array of attractions and the introduction of direct flights from Manchester Airport to the legendary city of Casablanca (yes, like the film), it's an excellent choice for your next escape.
If you're keen to experience the magic of Casablanca, be sure to visit the Old Medina, the backdrop for the 1942 classic film, reports the Mirror.
Its maze-like passages brimming with street vendors and markets offer a unique way to while away an afternoon. Upon reaching the ramparts of the ancient city, you'll be treated to breathtaking views below.
Perched at the northern end of the Old Medina is the Hassan II Mosque, which overlooks the ocean. Constructed by the former Moroccan king Hassan II in honour of his father, the mosque is considered one of Africa's most remarkable architectural feats.
After dark, a laser at the top points towards Mecca, and the silhouette of the building against the sunrise over the bay makes for a perfect Instagram-worthy shot.
If you've had your fill of culture, why not head to the golden sands of Ain Diab beach?
This stunning stretch of coastline extends for nearly two miles, offering a perfect spot to unwind in 27-degree temperatures while enjoying local cuisine.
Just north of the beach, you'll find La Corniche, a chic seafront promenade brimming with upscale restaurants, stylish beach bars and nightclubs. Here, you can enjoy a cocktail or dance the night away.
But before you hit the clubs, be sure to sample some local delicacies.
You'll find traditional dishes like tagine and couscous aplenty, but being a coastal town, Casablanca also offers mouth-watering seafood. Don't miss out on Chermoula a fish fillet fried in a herby marinade served with couscous and salad.
For those travelling with children, there's plenty to keep them entertained. The Tamaris Aquaparc is a must-visit.
Located just over an hour from the city centre by public transport, the park boasts over a dozen large water rides, bowling facilities, and its own beach. Tickets are priced at 230 Moroccan Dirhams (around £18) for adults and 150 Dirhams (£11.80) for children.
