A former flight attendant has revealed the best place to sit on a plane in a bid to avoid turbulence. Lorna Andrews, also known as Lorna Luxe, worked as an air hostess for Virgin Atlantic before transitioning into fashion and influencing.

Reflecting on her many years as a cabin crew member, Lorna shared how passengers could improve their journey simply by booking the correct seat.

Revealing how you could avoid a bumpy ride, she shared: "You need to sit forward of the wing if you don't want any turbulence because that turbulence, that wing and behind the wing, that tail really flaps."

Lorna also debunked the myth that buying chocolates for the staff could secure an upgrade. Instead, she suggested a different approach for those travelling with a companion on a full flight.

She said on the Should I Delete That? podcast: "I tell you what is a really good hack, if you're travelling on a full flight with someone else, and you're angling for an upgrade, put yourselves in seats that aren't together.

"Then, when you get to check in say, 'Oh my god it's our wedding anniversary' or whatever, 'Is there any chance you can put us together?'"

Lorna said that while it's unlikely they will accommodate your request on a full flight, they might be able to "bump you up".

In response, podcast host Em Clarkson said the move "seems risky" as she explained: "That happened to me before, I went to Japan I had my baby and I wasn't sitting with my husband and it was like 'no one's going to upgrade me with a kid' and they wouldn't."

Airports: Key hacks to help save time when travelling

Furthermore, the former flight attendant warned against drinking tea on planes, especially on an older aircraft due to hygiene concerns.

She elaborated: "It is because those tanks never get cleaned."

"Say the aircraft is like 15 years old, I mean, it's up to you but I wouldn't drink it, I wouldn't even do a cup-of-soup."

Instead, Lorna humorously suggested that passengers should "stick to alcohol".

As well as Lorna's tips, current flight attendant Esther Sturrus has gone viral with her best hacks on travelling.

Sharing one of her greatest tips, she explained on TikTok: “Being on planes means you always suffer from the dry air. And it is not nice if you also have dry air in your hotel room.

"So another big tip of mine is, when you arrive at your accommodation, soak a small towel and place it in front of the heater."

She added: “That water evaporates and in a small hotel room that can bring just a little relief.”
