World's most liveable city is a walkable gem with a long life expectancy
A beautiful city in France has the best quality of life in the world according to a new study that looked at key factors including life expectancy.
Ever dreamed of moving overseas? A new study from the team at Oxford Economics has named the world's most liveable cities.
The Global Cities Index for 2024 focused on six key factors which were life expectancy, income per person, income equality, recreation and cultural sites, internet speed and the cost of housing.
While the majority of cities in the top 10 were in Europe, one Australian city also made the hotlist.

10. Nantes, France
France's sixth largest city, Nantes scraped a place as one of the world's best places to live. Sitting on the banks of the Loire River, Nantes is close to France's western coastline. One of the city's most curious tourist attractions is the quirky Machines de l'Île, a fantasy world of mechanical contraptions. Fly a giant heron or sit on the back of a huge crab.
9. Ghent, Belgium
A port city, Ghent is located in northwest Belgium and it's also the country's most walkable destination. Visit Ghent describes the city as a place where "people enjoy life" and that seems to be true based on its high ranking in the study. Ghent has a huge pedestrian area so it's a fantastic choice if you want a city break that's easy to explore without a car.
8. Zurich, Switzerland
One of Europe's most expensive cities, Zurich makes up for it by offering residents a fantastic quality of life. The life expectancy in Switzerland is currently 84 years and Swiss cities generally perform well in clean air rankings. Zurich's top tourist attraction is Lake Zurich where tourists can enjoy the beautiful city from the water.
7. Reykjavik, Iceland
Iceland's capital is one of the world's best places to live. Iceland is consistently named the world's safest country and its residents enjoy a sense of security and peace. The city is a fantastic base to explore some of Iceland's gorgeous natural scenery.
6. Luxembourg, Luxembourg
Luxembourg just missed out on a spot in the top five but it's still one of the world's most liveable cities. Despite being an expensive place to live, the city's residents enjoy free public transport.
