A secluded beach in Scotland has been named among one of the best "secret and remote" bays in the UK as tourists opt for a busier bay just minutes down the road.
With beach season about to get under full swing, thousands of families are still searching for the perfect staycation this summer.
And while Scotland isn't most people's first choice for beach holidays, there are some amazing beaches perfect for exploring in the warmer weather.
The Telegraph has rounded up "Britain’s 20 best secret and remote beaches to avoid the crowds". One of the beaches included on the newspaper's list is Clashnessie Bay in the Highlands.
Located around 10 miles to the north of Lochinver in the Assynt district of Sutherland, Clashnessie Bay is a short drive from the famous Achmelvich Bay.
Its name is derived from the Gaelic 'clais an easaidh', which translates to 'glen of the waterfall' — referring to the nearby 15 metre Clashnessie Falls.
For those keen to avoid the crowds when the sun is shining at the more popular Achmelvich Bay, Clashnessie Bay is an ample alternative that is no less scenic.
Famous for its clear water and warm temperatures, it's a great option for those wanting to visit a new beach destination this summer.
Among Clashnessie Bay's most unique and attractive features is its closeness of the Atlantic Ocean Gulf Stream. This results in a mild microclimate that means it is usually warmer than other beaches in the area, reports the Daily Record.
In terms of places to sleep for those looking to spend the night, The Old School Byre is high on the list of recommendations. Described by The Telegraph as "basic but cosy self-catering accommodation", it is available from £950 for a week's stay.
The Northern Lights have even been spotted on this beach at times, with its placement being perfect all-year round for incredible sights.
One person wrote on Google reviews: "Stunning location, had to stop to take a few photos! This was one of the most stunning drives we have ever been on, every turn is a photo opportunity."
