Santorini is one of the most famous Greek islands and a top tourist destination, attracting visitors in their hundreds of thousands.

Its wild volcanic landscape, rugged cliffs, wild nature, and beautiful shores, combined with its rich history and traditions, make the island the gem of Greece.

Some two million visitors come to Santorini each year to sample and enjoy its rare natural beauty.

Yet the island is becoming a victim of its own success with many now complaining of overcrowding, particularly during the peak summer months.

For those desperate for the Santorini experience without the crowds, there is now a replica island resort that could actually be better than the real thing.

The Anantara Santorini Abu Dhabi Retreat opened in February this year and is an hour’s drive away from the capital’s city centre.

The concept is entirely inspired by the renowned Greek island and even has its own white, domed buildings cascading into crystal blue waters.

Above all the resort offers its visitors exclusivity and a peaceful retreat from the stresses and hassles of everyday life.

Rachid Bakas, the property’s general manager, told CNN: “It’s exclusive. This gives you that intimacy, this gives you that privacy.

"It’s a hideaway – which you might not have actually in Santorini because especially in summer, everywhere is packed, everywhere is busy.”

The hotel is divided into 22 rooms, accommodating a maximum of 44 guests at a time.

It does not come cheap with its lowest-priced room costing US$800 (£627) per night, which is double the average of Santorini hotels during high season.

Despite its cost, the resort is a hit with visitors, receiving rave reviews on Tripadvisor.

Riri B wrote: "The Anantara Santorini is a fantastic choice for a luxurious, peaceful, and relaxing stay just 30 minutes from Dubai by car.

"The hotel's design and architecture are breathtaking, often making you believe you've truly been teleported to Greece!

"The elegant design and state-of-the-art amenities add to its allure."
