Hand luggage: easyJet cabin bag rules explained as airline warns of ‘limited’ space
EASYJET is a UK budget airline favoured by Britons for low-cost flights to a variety of worldwide destinations. Yet scrimping on fare price often comes at the expense of generous luggage limitation - what are the easyJet cabin bag stipulations?
Baggage theft: Tips for keeping hand luggage safe on flights
easyJet planes can be easily spotted thanks to their orange and white branding - yet their baggage limitations can be a little less obvious. Travellers plumping solely for hand luggage only have often been caught out by changing regulations, and over-estimated just what personal items they can take on board. With summer holiday season fast approaching, Express.co.uk has clarified just what easyJet, which was recently hailed the world's second best budget airline, customers are entitled to. Those who are travelling solely with hand baggage are permitted one cabin bag each.
The easyJet website stipulated this in capital letters - meaning it is essential, and travellers should take note.
The advice states: “You can take ONE cabin bag per person on board.
“That’s just enough space for a couple of nights away.
“There’s no weight limit but we do ask that you are able to lift it into the overhead locker.”
They warn of the limited space on a standard easyJet aircraft, and continue: “Cabin space is limited and there’s only room for up to 70 cabin bags so the overhead lockers fill up quickly.
“All remaining cabin bags will be put into the hold and can be collected from the baggage carousel on arrival in the terminal.”
Those hoping to sneak through security with a couple of extra bags won’t go unnoticed, though.
EasyJet added: “We check bag sizes before you board.
“If they’re bigger than the maximum 56x45x25cm (including handles and wheels), they can’t go in the cabin and we’ll have to check them into the aircraft hold for a charge.”
Yet for those who simply can’t travel light, help is at hand if customers are willing to pay an extra charge.
Flexi, Upfront, Extra Legroom customers and easyJet Plus cardholders all get the option to bring an extra under seat bag, such as a laptop to handbag, along with them.
Yet it is essential these fit under the seat in front.
Meanwhile travel experts at The Points Guy UK have issued extra advice to UK travellers looking to swerve often-heavy baggage fees.
They said: “Hidden fees can also apply to carry-on baggage too, especially if you’re travelling with a low-cost carrier like Ryanair or easyJet.”
Express.co.uk recently reported how stringent Ryanair bag regulations were catching customers out.
