Carry on Stevie! Roy Hodgson wants Liverpool's Gerrard to continue after World Cup
ROY HODGSON wants Steven Gerrard to be England skipper beyond the World Cup finals.
There has been talk that the end of the Brazil 2014 campaign will mark the Liverpool captain's retirement from international football.
Gerrard turns 34 on May 30 and although he is fully committed to another Premier League season with Liverpool - with a new two-year contract - England could be a different matter.
But, as England prepare to leave for a five-day training camp in Portugal, England boss Hodgson admits that, at the right time, he will ask Gerrard to continue and to spearhead the 2016 European Championship campaign.
He said: "He's had his boots more than full with trying to win a title.
"It would be the wrong time to start discussing what about 2016 [European Championships] what about 2018 [World Cup] but he knows I would like him to go on beyond this World Cup."
