Madrid Open result: Alexander Zverev seals straight sets victory over Dominic Thiem
ALEXANDER ZVEREV triumphed at the Madrid Open with a straight-sets victory over Dominic Thiem this afternoon, 6-4 6-4.

The towering German sealing his second title in a fortnight, winning the Bavarian Championships in Germany last week before dominating a disappointing Thiem in the Spanish capital tonight.
It took just 1hr 18m for the 21-year-old to defeat his Austrian rival, taking home a reported prize pot of around €1,190,490 (£1m).
“I’ve been playing great tennis and I’m unbelievably happy,” the smiling champion told Sky Sports.

“It’s my second title on clay and right now I just can’t find the words to describe how happy I am.
“I felt great serving and on the baseline as well, that made a difference. Playing the event in Munich probably helped me. Hopefully, I can continue the way I am playing in Rome.”
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, pundits Annabel Croft and Greg Rusedski hailed the young star as “world class”.

“Everybody talks about this guy being a possible world No 1 one day,” Rusedski explained.
Three Masters titles already at this age – there’s only a few guys who have done that in this generation.
“[Novak] Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Roger Federer. That’s pretty good company to be keeping.”
