Roger Federer: Nick Kyrgios has praised Thanasi Kokkinakis for his Miami Open upset
Federer crashed out of the Miami Open by losing to Kokkinakis 3-6, 6-3, 6-7.
The Swiss star was a far cry from his usual self, going down in three sets after a timid performance by his high standards.
Kokkinakis has since been dumped out of the tournament by Fernando Verdasco.
But Kyrgios has revealed he was happy to see his compatriot beat Roger Federer - and admitted it was difficult to play against the 20-time Grand Slam champion.
“It's unbelievable. What he did out there is not easy,” the Australian said.
“I played Roger a couple or three times and I know how it feels to play against him.
“For him to come out and to win that match is amazing.
“I think he's going to do some great things. Yeah, it's just good to see him play the level I know he can play after a rough couple of years with injury.”
Federer’s defeat to Kokkinakis has seen him lose his No 1 ranking to Rafael Nadal.

“I think he has the strong possibility to be favourite going to the French [Open] if he’s healthy.
“But I think he has too many points to defend.”
