Federer’s clash with Hasse is expected to get underway at 6.30pm.
If the 36-year-old wins he will become the oldest ever player in the men's game to hold the number one ranking.
Rafael Nadal was only 155 points ahead at the top of the ATP World Rankings following Federer’s success at the Australian Open.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner beat Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets yesterday to set up the match with Hasse.
“It was extremely complicated tonight,” Federer said after securing his last-eight spot.
Wertheim: Federer is the exception that proves the rule
Federer has beaten Haase in both of their previous two meetings.
“I couldn’t find my range or my rhythm.
“I think Philipp did that to me; it was a struggle.
“Today when the score was close, I couldn’t release my shots.
“So it was a battle... It was quite the relief at the end.”
