Peter Fleming: Huge disappointment for Roger Federer
Those are the thoughts of former tennis star-turned-coach Magnus Norman who recently parted company with Stan Wawrinka.
Federer enjoyed a stellar year on the circuit, winning two Grand Slams and he reached number two in the world rankings.
The Swiss carefully managed his schedule once again and played in 17 tournaments which was the least of those in the top four.
Federer is now relaxing ahead of the Australian Open which gets underway in January.
The Swiss will be hoping to add to his 19 Grand Slam titles, although he will meet some familiar rivals, with Andy Murray and Djokovic likely to return to action.
He has also spent the record number of weeks (302) in his career as world number one.

Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych and Kei Nishikori are also likely to be fit after missing the second half of the season through injury.
And Norman thinks Federer has shown that he can still cut it at the top despite being the sport’s eldest statesman.
“Roger showed you can be very competitive at 35 if you are excited and committed,” Norman told Industris del Tenis.
Norman, meanwhile, opened up on his split from Wawrinka.
Magnus Norman admires Roger Federer for still being so competitive
He said: “Stan is a person with who you like working, he is shy, introvert, and has a life outside of tennis, which is really important and made our relationship good.
“He is a typical Swiss worker.
“I remember the first time I spoke to him: I told him to write on paper his goals, and I would have done it too.”
