NICK KYRGIOS has been hammered by fans on Twitter after the Australian stormed off court during the Shanghai Masters.
Nick Kyrgios has angered fans by storming off court at the Shanghai Masters
The controversial tennis star quit the Shanghai Masters tournament midway through his first round clash with world number 45 Steve Johnson.
Kyrgios became increasingly frustrated throughout the opening exchanges and was docked a penalty point for an audible expletive towards a line judge.
The 22-year-old then threatened to walk off the court if he lost the first set, and duly kept his promise after Johnson won the tie-break.
The crowd booed Kyrgios as he shook Johnson’s hand and headed for the locker room, and the maverick ace has subsequently taken to Twitter to justify his actions.
Kyrgios claims he has been battling a stomach bug and a shoulder problem in the run up to his match, but his explanation has not carried much weight with fans on Twitter.
Kyrgios followed up the explanation by writing: "On a more positive note, I hit 13 aces which is more money in the pot for @MonicaAce93 #DonateWithMonica."
He is currently donating $50 for every ace he hits to go towards victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
