Wimbledon 2017: Andy Murray set for extended break after Sam Querrey defeat - John McEnroe
ANDY MURRAY will likely take some time away from tennis after crashing out of Wimbledon to Sam Querrey at the quarterfinal stage, according to John McEnroe.
Wimbledon: Andy Murray knocked out by Sam Querrey
Murray twice took a set lead against the American but won just two of the last 14 games after winning the third-set tie break.
The Brit appeared to be struggling with a hip injury that had hindered him in the run-up to Wimbledon and had threatened his participation.
And McEnroe, who won three Wimbledon titles in the 1980s, believes the world No1 will now take a break from the game.
“I anticipate Murray will be taking some fairly significant time off to at least try and get that back on track,” McEnroe told the BBC.
“Querrey? It's the greatest win of his life, especially considering the circumstances.”
Querrey has never won a Grand Slam quarterfinal before but now has two major Wimbledon scalps having knocked out Novak Djokovic here last year.

But to beat the champion on his own turf, even with Murray clearly hampered by injury, was an impressive performance.
“Obviously it was tough out there for Andy and he was hurting a little bit. He was up against a player who was playing extremely well,” said former world No1 Stefan Edberg.
“It was tough out in the fifth but you must hand it to Sam, he was playing so well.
“It's a pity for Andy but that's the way it goes sometimes in sport.”
