Roger Federer eases past Marcel Granollers in straight sets at Roland Garros
THERE were no security scares for Roger Federer today at Roland Garros – the only unexpected thing creeping onto Court Suzanne Lenglen was a bit of uncertainty.
Roger Federer defeated Marcel Granollers 6-2, 7-6, 6-3
A final score of 6-2, 7-6, 6-3 suggests there were few real dramas after a fan came on court during his game on Sunday to demand a photograph.
Sure enough, the no.2 seed rattled off the first set in his customary business-like style against Marcel Granollers, a Spaniard currently back outside the world’s top 50 after an indifferent start to 2015.
However, some errant groundstrokes – one in particular in the second set nearly missed the tramline altogether – gave Granollers some hope, and the 29-year-old found himself a break up in both the second and the third sets.
Each time Federer broke back, and added a second break in the third set to avoid the lottery of a tie-break.
Indeed, by the end of his 1 hours 47min on court his old rhythm was largely back for the Swiss, who secured a place in the third round with a second serve that Granollers could merely hit tamely back into the net.
