Kyle Edmund kicks out his mate
KYLE EDMUND is still on the road to the Wimbledon Boys’ final – and promised to drop his beaten opponent back home on the way.
Fellow Brit Jonny O’Mara is 18-year-old Edmund’s close friend who could do nothing to prevent him from securing a 6-3, 6-2 victory on Court 14 to book a place in today’s quarter-finals.
Edmund, though, admitted it was not a victory that he much enjoyed.
“Jonny is in the next room to me and we come to Wimbledon together, so it was a horrible feeling to play him, but the important thing is I won,” said Edmund, who picked up a £23,500 cheque for losing in the first round of the main draw last week.
Edmund has used this fortnight to learn to live in the fast lane – as the regular hitting partner of Andy Murray. “I have trained with him four or five times,” he said.
“We do a lot of basic drilling, but nothing that’s too complicated. It is good for me to learn the basic stuff. It has helped me over the last couple of weeks and given me an insight into the tour level.
“It’s nice he keeps asking me back and, hopefully, it means I am giving him a good hit.”
