Rafa Nadal brushes aside Stanislas Wawrinka to advance to the French Open semi-finals
RAFA NADAL reached his 20th Grand Slam semi-final in style after despatching Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets- 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
Nadal had eased through to the quarter-finals after a routine victory against Kei Nishikori, and the odds appeared stacked against Wawrinka who was aiming to become the first male Swiss player to go further than Roger Federer at a Grand Slam since Wimbledon in 2002.
He was in full throttle right from the opening set, and Wawrinka struggled to hold on.
After cruising through the first few games, Nadal closed it out 6-2.
The Spaniard continued to showed great athleticism and mixed up his game with some delicate shots.
His early break paid off and after clinching the second set, it was a foregone conclusion.
The seven-times French Open champion was in devastating form and held his serve to win the third comfortably too.
Nadal faces his nemesis, Novak Djokovic, in the semi-finals after the Serb beat Tommy Haas 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) 7-5.
