Barbora Krejcikova has teased a comeback after sharing a photo of herself getting back on the tennis court. The Czech star enjoyed one of her best seasons in 2024, being crowned the Wimbledon champion, but has not played a match since November and keeps pulling out of big tournaments.

The world No. 15 has been battling a back injury, which saw her miss the Australian Open, Indian Wells, and Miami, among other events. Krejcikova’s last appearance came at the WTA Finals five months ago, but she could now return on the clay.

Krejcikova took to social media to confirm that she was back on the practice court, posting a snap of her shoes on the clay. “Finally some fresh air,” she wrote.

It comes after the world No. 2 revealed that she had been given doctor’s permission to begin training again, but wants to start slowly.

“I've reached the stage where I can do everything, the doctors have given me permission,” she told Tenisovy svet.

“I'm gradually putting more strain on my back, I play tennis three, maximum four times a week, for an hour to an hour and a half.”

It’s finally good news for Krejcikova who, just a few weeks ago, questioned whether she’d ever be pain-free. Now, she’s targeting a comeback during the clay swing.

The two-time Grand Slam champion has pulled out of every tournament she has entered this year, including this week’s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. For now, her name remains on the entry list for the Madrid Open, with the WTA draw underway on April 22.

Now that she’s back on the practice court, Krejcikova wants to get back on tour in time for the French Open, where she swept the singles and doubles trophies in 2021.

If she isn’t ready in time for the Madrid Open, another WTA 1000 event in Rome kicks off on May 7.

“I hope I can make it to Paris, and if I can do something before then, I will be happy,” she added.

“It's sad that I'm not playing and that I had to miss such a large part of the season. I was hoping that the injury wouldn't be so serious and that the recovery would be faster, but unfortunately, that's not the case.”

Last year’s Wimbledon winner already seems optimistic about returning on the grass, as she has entered WTA warm-up events at Queen’s and Eastbourne.

The 29-year-old went on an incredible run at SW19 last year, beating four top-15 players in a row to claim her second Grand Slam singles title while ranked down at No. 32 in the world.
