Wimbledon LIVE: Emma Raducanu slammed over 'outrageous Generation Z' reaction to defeat
EMMA RADUCANU has been criticised for her "outrageous Gen-Z reaction" to getting knocked out of Wimbledon in the second round.
Wimbledon: Highlights from day three of tournament
The British number one was defeated by French player Caroline Garcia, who is ranked 55th in the world. When asked about the outcome of the match, Ms Raducanu said: "I didn't have many expectations of myself". She added that she didn't feel any pressure as she is only 19 years old and "literally won a slam" - referring to the US Open. But Ms Raducanu's blase "Gen Z" attitude toward failure has been slammed by Daily Mail columnist Mike Column, who criticised the tennis star for just being happy to have taken part in the tournament. He said: "If it's not about winning, why do they keep score and hand out medals for the fastest, highest and strongest?' "Or in Raducanu's case, why does she think they hand out millions of dollars and Tiffany jewellery? So she can smile and wave as she leaves the court after losing?"

Rafael Nadal was asked about Emma Raducanu after the Brit wore his logo during her match.
Discussing Raducanu's year, he said: "I honestly never had a big interaction with her. But I was very impressive when I saw her winning the US Open. I think was last year, no? I saw the final. The way that she played was unbelievable.
"It's difficult to manage all this kind of success at very early stage of your life, no? But I wish her all the very best. I think she's a very important character for our sport.
"I know she's having a tough year, but in the other hand she already won a Slam at very early stage of her career. That's gives her I think calm to take her time to keep improving and to keep having chances in the near future. I really hope that she will."
Rafael Nadal came close to retiring just weeks before Wimbledon
Rafael Nadal came close to retiring just weeks before Wimbledon, due to a foot injury.
However, he said he "does not fear" the day he will have to retire.
He said: "My philosophy is a couple of weeks ago I was close to it [retirement]," Nadal said. "Now I don't feel that way (smiling). That's my philosophy, no?
"It's something that I am not -- I never had fear about that day. I think I am happy that I had a very happy life outside of tennis, even if tennis is a very important part of my life for the last 30 years.
"I have been happy outside of tennis, without a doubt. I have a lot of things that I like to do away from tennis, so I am not worried about that. But, of course, when that day arrives, going to be a change. All the changes in this life takes a while. You need to adapt to the changes, no?"

Fans furious at Raducanu & Murray games half empty as Covid sweeps SW19
Wimbledon fans have been left furious as Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray's games went ahead with dozens of empty seats.
The unused Centre Court seats frustrated fans unable to attend. Located around the Royal Box, these are believed to be reserved for corporate guests and members of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and All England Lawn Tennis Club. Killy Cavendish, a seasoned Wimbledon fan who lives locally and has been coming to the tournament for years, told the Guardian: “I am fed up. I don’t like seeing empty seats at all, when people are stuck outside queueing.
The main thing I want to see is them release some Centre Court tickets.” Meanwhile, Roberto Bautista Agut has become the third top men's player to withdraw from Wimbledon after testing positive for Covid. It follows withdrawals from former finalists Marin Cilic and Matteo Berrettini.

Wimbledon star blasts umpire for 'hitting the panic button' during Stefanos Tsitsipas tie
Jordan Thompson was livid with the umpire and accused him of 'pressing the panic button' during his closely-fought clash against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The score was tied at 3-3 in the second set with Tsitsipas on break point when the controversy struck.
A line judge called Tsitsipas' shot out - and the umpire overruled it - before Thompson returned the effort. It meant the point had to be replayed, allowing the Greek star another shot at a crucial break.
"That call came way before I took the shot," Thompson raged. "Don't shake your head because we're going to watch it later and you're going to admit that you're wrong. That is a joke, an absolute joke.
"I didn't play my shot because I wasn't even trying, the call came so early. The call came a good two seconds before I made the shot. After the match we're going to go and watch it and you're going to apologise."
Wimbledon star defends controversial rule after Nick Kyrgios criticism
Paula Badosa has defended Wimbledon's all-white clothing rule after the tradition was slammed by Nick Kyrgios.
The fourth seed said it was "nice" to play in all-white clothing for two weeks of the year days after the Aussie claimed he wanted the chance to wear all black.
Wimbledon's all-white clothing rule has often caused controversy, from the likes of Kyrgios claiming it isn't "cool" to many pointing out the issue it raises for players who are menstruating. But world No 4 Badosa has admitted that she enjoys playing in the strict attire for two weeks of the season and complimented the tradition.
Asked whether she'd want to see a change in the policy, the Spaniard said: "No, I think it's nice and it's traditional." The 24-year-old spoke after reaching the third round with a 6-3 6-3 win over Irina Bara.
"It's always different," she continued. "I think grass courts, as well, it's a different part of the season. It's nice like that, I think, to play like this. One or two weeks per year, it's always nice and unique."
Nick Kyrgios aims warning to Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic after Wimbledon masterclass
Nick Kyrgios feels Wimbledon is his "best chance of winning a Grand Slam" after his dominant second-round win over Filip Krajinovic.
Kyrgios needed all five sets in his opening match against Brit Paul Jubb to progress to the next round in what was a turbulent clash.
The Australian spent a lot of his time during that match arguing with the crowd while also complaining to the umpire about the line judges.
But it was a different Kyrgios out there entirely on Court 2 in his match against Krajinovic.
The 27-year-old didn't drop a single point on his own serve in the first set as he quickly moved 1-0 up.
The second followed in a similar fashion with the Aussie two sets up with not even an hour gone.
Krajinovic was nowhere near competitive, but Kyrgios was partly to blame with his talents on full display.
He won an incredible 93 percent of points on his first serve while hitting an incredible 50 winners.
"I just wanted to remind everyone that I'm pretty good," Kyrgios said.
Taylor Fritz victorious
Alastair Gray saved four match points in the third set but the American served out comfortably enough in the end to progress in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Fritz remains on course for a quarter-final against Rafael Nadal.
