Roger Federer has come under fire from his own Swiss supporters for comparing his win over Peter Gojowczyk to a workout.
Swiss Indoors: Roger Federer defeats Peter Gojowczyk in Basel
Roger Federer has been slammed for his latest comments at the Swiss Indoors.
The 38-year-old thrashed Peter Gojowczyk 6-2, 6-1 in a quick fire 53 minutes last night.
He then proceeded to explain why he kept his foot on the accelerator during his opening match of the Basel tournament.
"If you have the chance to get through a game quickly, then you have to take advantage of it,” Federer said.

“It may be a bit different than before, when I got set jump and break lead and did not necessarily push for a second break.
“I do it differently now than 10 years ago. This will save you a lot of energy.
“In 53 minutes you do not consume much. That's ideal. Actually like a super workout in front of an audience.
“I already felt great in the warm-up. That was confirmed in the match.”
Swiss newspaper Blick ran Federer’s comments on comparing the win to a practice session.
And the readers were not happy with how their hero disrespected the opposition.
“Describing a game among professionals as a training unit testifies to complete disrespect to the opponent,” one fan wrote.
“How to cheer such a victory with such stupid sayings is beyond me.
“From an overall sublime Federer would actually be expected more.
“I hope the receipt for this is done with an early exit Federer from the tournament. If then similar sayings will fall?”
While another person added: “I do not like him.”
And a further user gave their support to the critics, writing: "Exactly."
