Daniil Medvedev reacts to crazy Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic boost at Shanghai Masters
Daniil Medvedev says it is "crazy" that Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic exited the Shanghai Masters at the quarter-final stage.
Daniil Medvedev booked his place in the Shanghai Masters final by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas this morning.
The Russian then reflected on the previous day’s play which saw both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic fall to shock defeats.
“We saw something even more crazy yesterday,” Medvedev said.
Medvedev was on course to meet world No 1 Djokovic in today’s semi-final but instead came up against Tsitsipas.
The 23-year-old was also on course to meet Federer in tomorrow’s final but the Swiss star lost to Alexander Zverev.
Medvedev attempt to win his seventh ATP title on Sunday when he takes on the winner of Zverev vs Matteo Berrettini.
And he is full of confidence heading into his ninth final of the season.
“I have won a lot of sets in a row,” Medvedev said.
“In St. Petersburg I won the title without losing a set and it is actually quite crazy because here I had a lot of opportunities to lose a set.
“I was close to losing a lot of them but I think that’s also the confidence and dynamic that I’m going through.
“The most important thing is to keep it going as long as I can.”
Medvedev really announced himself to the world when he fought from two sets down to take Rafael Nadal the distance in the US Open final.
But he is not happy with just making it to the biggest stage.
Medvedev added: “Every loss is a disappointment.
“For me the US Open was a great match, a great fight and amazing tennis but I’m disappointed to lose.
“It’s the same with every match no matter if it’s the first round or the final. It’s a great achievement and I’m proud of myself. Hopefully I can get the win tomorrow.”
