US Open: Coco Gauff thanks 'amazing' fans for support
Tennis sensation Cori “Coco” Gauff will play her second-round match at the US Open against Timea Babos on Thursday.
The 15-year-old American was branded tennis’ new rising star as she knocked out tennis heavyweight Venus Williams in the first round at Wimbledon and reached the second week of the tournament last month.
Gauff booked her spot in the US Open second round after beating fellow junior major winner Anastasia Potapova.
Following her victory, Coco was understandably delighted to record her first Slam win on home soil.
She said: “I mean, it was crazy. Obviously I was nervous going out on the court.
“It’s such a big court. Then my home Slam, so I wanted to do well.
“The crowd really helped me the whole match. Like, it was really a great atmosphere to play in and a great experience for me.”
But Coco will face a tougher and more experienced challenger in this round, taking on 26-year-old Babos.

There will be causes for concern for the 15-year-old, not least because of the 11 double faults she hit in the last round.
Hungarian Babos, who has won three singles and 21 doubles titles on the WTA Tour, hits a heavy ball and after winning three qualifying matches, Babos should have worked up a good head of steam.
However, with a fulsome backing from the mostly American crown, Coco will be hard to stop.
The American tennis ace will be fully focused as she has a chance to possibly set up a blockbuster third-round clash against Naomi Osaka.
