Roger Federer tells Simona Halep she will lose to Serena Williams if she does one thing
ROGER FEDERER has told Simona Halep she will lose against Serena Williams in the Wimbledon final if she does not have a winner’s mentality.
Wimbledon: Halep says she has a ‘big chance’ against Williams
Federer booked his place in the men’s single’s final yesterday with a brilliant four-set win over rival Rafael Nadal.
World No 1 Novak Djokovic stands in the way of the Swiss star and the 21st Grand Slam title of his career
However, before their titanic battle graces Wimbledon’s Centre Court, Halep will take on 23-time Grand Slam winner Williams in a blockbuster women’s final.
And Federer has warned the Romanian to be positive heading into the clash or else she will be punished.
“Try to win it, you know,” Federer said when asked if he has any advice for Halep.
“Yeah, I mean, you got to have the winner mentality, don't you?
“It's not like, I'm happy to be in the finals. It's Serena, I have no chance. Like this you're going to lose, that's for sure.
“You have to have that winner mentality, that I belong here, I've earned my way here, I've been playing great.
“You don't get to a Wimbledon finals playing average, you know. Some people might do that, but normally you're feeling the ball well.
“She needs to back herself and enjoy it also. But that comes after when you win.
“It's full-on concentration, not let the moment be too big. The good thing is she's won a Slam before.
“She knows how to do it at this point. That's great. “
Wimbledon: Federer says he is 'excited' to face Djokovic in final
Meanwhile, Halep acknowledged she will be in for a difficult afternoon.
But she is ready to challenge for a second Grand Slam title of her career following her French Open success last year.
“I played many matches against her. Many of them were very close," she said.
"I have learned that I have the chance. Now, if I face her, I will believe that I have my chance to win against her. Of course, I respect a lot what she has done and what she's doing.
"But now I feel stronger mentally facing her. We will see what is going to happen. It's just a big challenge for me."
