Wimbledon fans decide on Andy Murray and Serena Williams mixed doubles nickname
WIMBLEDON fans have decided on which nickname they prefer for Andy Murray and Serena Williams' mixed doubles pairing.
Wimbledon: Williams reveals preferred Murray doubles nickname
Murray and Williams were at loggerheads yesterday over a team name but during their second round match at Wimbledon, the fans were all shouting one thing.
Former world No 1 Murray claimed he would prefer SerAndy - a play on words regarding his knighthood.
But 23-time Grand Slam winner Williams was in favour of Murena.
A solitary "SerAndy" was bellowed from the Centre Court crowd during the first set of their clash with Fabrice Martin and Raquel Atawo.
However, the majority of calls were either "Come on Andy" or "Come on Murena" - so that's the nickname settled.
Williams gave her opinion earlier this week.
“He did tweet #SerAndy. But I said, I like Murena. My vote is still for Murena," she said.
“We just have to be focussed, go out there and so what we have to do.
"It’s always hard to play people that are really experienced in doubles, that have had a lot of success.
“We are just going to bring our singles attitude to the court with a doubles mindset.”
Earlier in the day Williams progressed to the single's semi-finals with a three-set victory over Alison Riske.
The 37-year-old will face Barbora Strycova on Thursday.
