Novak Djokovic tips seven stars to challenge Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon
NOVAK DJOKOVIC reckons there are seven players who can challenge himself, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal for the Wimbledon title.
World No 1 Djokovic is the defending champion at the All England Club and will head into the tournament as the top seed.
French Open winner Nadal will be looking to take his clay form into the grass season.
Eight-time Wimbledon champion Federer is also a strong contender to add to his 20 Grand Slam titles.
But Djokovic has named several underdogs who could upset the applecart.
“As for Wimbledon, Federer and Nadal are always among the top candidates of course and the three of us should be the favourites to win the title," Djokovic told Serbian press.
“However, apart from the usual suspects, there are a bunch of other very strong contenders.
"I see Milos Raonic, Alexander Zverev, Stan Wawrinka, John Isner, Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Kevin Anderson as the next in line.”
Djokovic had the opportunity to hold all four Grand Slam titles at the same time last month.
However, the Serbian lost to Dominic Thiem in the semi-finals - bringing an end to his dominance.
Djokovic has not beaten himself up over the result as he claims it did not take him long to recover mentally.
“I needed only one night to bounce back," Djokovic said.
"Earlier in my career, it took much longer.
"The emotions and the sadness when I lose are still there of course, but I move on much quicker now among other things because I am a father of two children."
Djokovic, like Nadal, is not planning to play any ATP grass events prior to Wimbledon.
In contrast, Federer is competing at the Halle Open this week.
