Federer, 37, is not expected to play beyond the end of next year.
Since becoming a father to two sets of twins, the Swiss star has taken every opportunity to take his young family to the major events.
The oldest set of twins, Myla Rose and Charlene, are nine years old and are conscious their father will not be able to play forever.
They have even been quizzing the world No 3 on the same topic millions of fans around the world want to know.
“They often ask me how long I will play again,” Federer told TV Magazine.
“I do not know what to say to them because honestly, I do not know.”
Federer is asked about his retirement at almost every event he travels to as the fans fear it could be the final time they get to see their hero.
But the 20-time Grand Slam winner is still enjoying travelling the world to play tennis.
And while he is, he plans to continue for the foreseeable future.
“I like traveling but sometimes it's hard to leave my family at home,” Federer said.
“This is why we are often together on the circuit.
“I discover cities differently with parks, zoos.
