Italian Open: Rafael Nadal gives passionate speech after win
Nadal had been in poor form in the build up to Rome event and there were lingering doubts about his French Open title credentials.
The Spaniard responded by working hard and it paid dividends, winning the Italian Open yesterday.
He was then asked about the process of coming back to top form.
And the world No 2 produced an empowering answer which will inspire others to follow in his footsteps.
“You work mentally when you go on the court every day,” he said.
“You don't complain when you play bad, when you have problems, when you have pains.
“You put the right attitude, the right face.
“You are not negative about all the issues that happened, if I am playing bad, if I have physical problems.
“You go on court every day with the passion to keep practicing. That's the mental work, no?
“That's something that I did during all my career, not being frustrating when the things are not going well, not being too negative.
“That's why I was able to always have the chance to be back.
“Here we are. Important title, important moment. Now is the moment to keep going.”
Nadal is hunting a record-extending 12th title at the French Open next week.
However, world No 1 Djokovic and Austrian Dominic Thiem are also hot favourites.
And Roger Federer will make his first return to Roland Garros since 2015.
