Roger Federer unsure of Miami Open success for one reason
ROGER FEDERER says he is unsure of how successful his Miami Open run will be because the tournament has moved to a new location.
Roger Federer looks ahead to Miami Open 2019
Federer lost to Dominic Thiem in the Indian Wells final last week, missing out on the 101st ATP title of his career.
The Swiss star has the opportunity to bounce straight back in the second leg of the ‘Sunshine Double’.
Last year in Miami, Federer suffered a shock defeat to Thanasi Kokkinakis in his opening match.
And the 37-year-old is unsure if he can better his previous effort as the competition takes place at it’s new home - the Hard Rock Stadium - for the first time.
“I’d like to say yes [I can pick up momentum], but then I thought the same last year,” Federer said.
“I lost early there, too. Now it's totally different. Everybody's got to get used to centre court or the conditions at the new site.
“You know, I'm eager to find out how it's going to be like.
“I heard it's going to be raining the next few days, so I hope to get some practice in.
Indian Wells: Federer congratulates Thiem after defeat
“I feel really good, so why shouldn't I go into the tournament and to the event confident?
“But then again, we'll see what the draw is like.
“We will see how I feel in six days. There is still a lot of open question marks.
“Right now I feel really good, yeah.”
