Roger Federer reacts to US Open trophy drought after a decade of misery
ROGER FEDERER insists he is not "puzzled" as to his decade-long trophy drought at the US Open.
Federer is gearing up for the New York event, which starts on Monday, and he is hoping to end years of disappointment in America.
The Swiss star has won the final Grand Slam of the season on five occasions - although his last came back in 2008, where he beat Andy Murray in the final.
An array of different players have won the US Open in that time, including Juan Martin del Potro, Rafael Nadal, Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic and Murray.
Federer has continued to impress on grass but less so in New York.
However, he is not too concerned because he already has a huge haul of trophies in his cabinet.
"It's not puzzling,” Federer said.
“I won the US Open five times. So I stand here pretty happy,to be quite honest.
“It's not like, God, the US Open never worked out for me. It hasn't the last couple years, but it's all good.”
Federer, 37, could soon be running out of time to add to his impressive 20 Grand Slam titles.
The world No 2 has been handed a difficult draw at the US Open and he could face former world No 1 Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
But before that, a potential match-up with Nick Kyrgios could surface in the third round.
Any meeting with arch-rival Nadal will have to wait until the final, although it is a long road to that point.
