NRL Grand Final triumph just the spur for England's George Burgess
IT has been a time of celebration for George Burgess, and now he wants to flirt with history again.
The front row England star was part of the South Sydney Rabbitohs side which ended a 43-year wait this year to win Australia's NRL title as they beat Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 30-6 at the start of the month.
England have not beaten Australia since 1995, a record Burgess would like to see end in Melbourne on this Sunday in their second match of the Four Nations.
Brugess, 22, said: "It was a fairytale to win the NRL Grand Final after so long. It would cap off a great year if we could win the Four Nations with England. This is definitely our goal."
Burgess's older brother Sam links up with rugby union side Bath today in a multi-million pound move and George, who will play alongside twin Tom on Sunday, refuses to rule out joining him long term.
He said: "You never say never but at this moment in time I have got no plans."
There was shock when Australian Jarryd Hayne quit rugby league this month to move to American Football and Dewsbury-born Burgess refused to totally dimiss following him, saying "You never know, probably not, but never say never."
England, who beat Samoa last Saturday, will book a Four Nations final spot with a game to spare if they beat Australia who lost to New Zealand.
England coach Steve McNamara has named the same 17 players who beat Samoa 32-26 but there could still be a late call-up for skipper Sean O'Loughlin who missed that match with a leg injury.
ENGLAND: S Tomkins, Charnley, Watkins, Shenton, Hall; Widdop, Smith; G Burgess, Hodgson, Graham, Farrell, J Tomkins, Westerman. Subs: Clark, Ferres, T Burgess, Hill.
